The standup order wheel picks who speaks next at random, which keeps a daily standup awake in a way going round the grid in the same order never does.

Fixed order is the quiet killer of daily standup. If you always go alphabetically or clockwise round the call grid, everyone knows when their turn is, prepares for it, delivers it, and stops listening. Fifteen minutes of nobody paying attention to anybody else, which is precisely the opposite of the point.
Random order means you might be next, so you have to be present. The change is immediate and slightly uncomfortable for the first few days, which is a reasonable sign it is doing something.
