Workout Wheel

The workout wheel picks today’s session at random, which gets you moving before the part of your brain that negotiates has finished waking up.

Eight session types on the wheel, from a full-body workout down to a long walk, with mobility and rest-adjacent options included on purpose.

Deciding what to train is a small decision that regularly costs people the entire session. You open the app, you consider three plans, you notice you are tired, and the negotiation ends the way negotiations with yourself usually end. Removing the decision removes the opening the negotiation needs.

The version that works is loading the wheel with sessions you have actually done and know you can finish. A wheel full of aspirational workouts gets ignored the first time it lands on something you do not want to do, and once you have overruled it, it stops working entirely.

Keep the walk on there. A drawn walk you actually take beats a chosen HIIT session you skip, and the wheel only keeps its authority if you honour the easy results too.

Workout Wheel — questions

What should I put on the wheel?

Sessions you have done before and know you can finish. Aspirational workouts get overruled the first time they come up, and once you have overruled the wheel once, it stops working.

Should rest days be on the wheel?

Keep a light option like mobility or a walk rather than a full rest slice, and schedule genuine rest deliberately. Drawing rest at random tends to land on the day you were already going to train.

Can I use it inside a session?

Yes, and it is good for it. Put individual exercises on the wheel and spin between sets for a randomised circuit — it keeps things unpredictable without you having to plan the order.
